Java Expedition · Bali
A driver collects you from your Bali hotel in the late afternoon, takes you across the strait to Java, and by 03:00 you're on the rim of Ijen; you're back in Bali by mid-afternoon the next day. Pick it when you can't spare a night in Banyuwangi and still want everything, ferry included, in one booking.

This is the Bali version of Java Expedition's all-inclusive Ijen hike, sold as its own product. The pickup time depends on where you're staying: 16:30 in Padang Bai and Amed, 17:00 in Kuta, Legian and Seminyak, 17:15 in Sanur and Sidemen, 18:00 in Ubud, Tabanan and Canggu, and 19:45 to 21:00 in Lovina, Pemuteran and Munduk. The car runs to Gilimanuk, the crew helps with the tickets, and the ferry takes about an hour to Ketapang on Java. Set your watch back: Bali is one hour ahead of Java.
From there the night matches the Banyuwangi trip. Health check at midnight, Paltuding around 01:00, the climb from about 01:45, the rim by 03:00, sunrise from a viewpoint and coffee by the lake. The descent to the blue fire happens only if it is safe and approved, and in 2026 that's a big if: the volcano agency advises against it and JawaPos reported in October 2026 a ban on approaching the fire. Count on the hike, not the flames.
The honest drawback is time. The listing calls it 22 hours, and one guest put it well: transport from Bali was time consuming but well arranged. You'll nap in the car, not in a bed. If you have a spare night, take the Banyuwangi start and sleep in Java first. Our guide to doing Ijen from Bali lays out the two options side by side.
The time depends on your area. Then the drive west to Gilimanuk.
About an hour across the Bali Strait to Ketapang. Java is one hour behind Bali.
The required medical check at a clinic in Banyuwangi, then the drive up to Paltuding.
About 1.5 hours and 3 km to the rim, with a guide, mask and headlamp.
The descent only if it is safe and approved. Sunrise from a viewpoint, then coffee or tea by the lake.
Down to Paltuding, a rest, the ferry back and the drive to your hotel.

About 22 hours door to door. You leave your hotel between 16:30 and 21:00 and get back at about 15:00 to 16:30 the next day. Around 3 to 4 hours of that is the hike itself.
Yes. Ferry tickets both ways and the Bali tax are in the price, and the crew helps at Gilimanuk port. The crossing to Ketapang takes about an hour.
Yes, both are run by Java Expedition, as is the 2-day Bromo and Ijen tour. The hike, the kit and what's included are the same; this one adds the Bali transfers and the ferry.
Not guaranteed. The listing says it depends on weather, volcanic activity and the miners, and the descent goes ahead only if it is safe and approved on the night. In 2026 the local press reported a ban on approaching the fire.
