Ijen from Banyuwangi or Ubud

Indoaddict collects you around midnight in Banyuwangi, or from Ubud with the ferry, for a guided climb to the Ijen rim and sunrise. Its edge is the kit: a trekking pole comes with the gas mask, and breakfast is included after the climb.

Ijen Blue Fire Tour from Banyuwangi or Ubud

About this experience

Indoaddict is a small Banyuwangi operator with two starts. From Banyuwangi the car picks you up around midnight, or at 23:00 from the Ketapang port, for the drive of about two hours to Paltuding. From Ubud the trip adds the drive to Gilimanuk and the ferry, and brings you back to Ubud at the end. Hotels in Licin, at the Ijen resort villas or around Ketapang port cost Rp150,000 more per group.

At Paltuding there's a 20-minute briefing with coffee, then about five hours for the hike, the rim and the sunrise, and breakfast before the drive back. The price covers an air-conditioned car, a mountain guide, the medical statement, the park ticket, water, breakfast and the gear: a trekking pole and a gas mask. The pole earns its keep on the way down, when the sandy trail gets slippery.

Guest feedback is mixed, and worth reading before you book. People praise the guides and getting to the top ahead of the queues. Others report a late first driver, a confusing booking process, crowds, and guides lighting chunks of sulfur to make a blue flame for photos. That last point matches what the park authority said about a viral 2026 video of a guide doing the same with a lighter. Real blue fire depends on the rangers allowing the descent, and JawaPos reported in October 2026 a ban on approaching it. If you'd rather book with fewer surprises, compare the all-inclusive hike.

  • Trekking pole and gas mask included

Tips before you book

  • Message the operator after booking to confirm your pickup point and time. One guest suggests contacting them directly.
  • Stay in central Banyuwangi to avoid the Rp150,000 pickup surcharge.
  • Bring a jacket and gloves: the listing gives 8 to 13 C before dawn.
  • Leave the drone at home. Drones, alcohol and drugs aren't allowed.
  • If someone lights sulfur for your photo, that isn't the natural blue fire. Ask your guide what you're looking at.
